These should be fixed a minimum of 2 meters away from the ground in a quiet place of your garden, away from predators. Preferably site the box with the entrance hole facing between north and east, this avoids the worst of the weather and prevents the box and its inhabitants becoming overheated in the sunny weather.
Place rose cuttings oor any thorny material on the roof of the box to discourage cats, if you do place this on a tree, make sure there is no overhanging branches for cats to gain easy access to the house.
